Grrr My Computer

This post is more of me 'letting it out' I guess.


My computer is so slow! It takes 10 mins to start up but that's not the only annoying thing. My videocard sometimes stops responding when DirectX and OpenGL start up (well, before they start it stops) so I have to restart my computer, when coming out of hibernation sometimes the screen just stays black so I have to restart my compuer also. That part is very annoying, time consuming and it makes it very hard to develop things with DirectX.

I had thought up lots of stuff to write when I was waiting for it to start up but I have forgotten them by the time the browser started, internet connected and visited this page (Not in that order).

well i'm poor. so i'm sorry. maybe i could help you fix it.. i say probally new RAM, HDD and a cheap 64 mb video card.. that should clear it up pretty good. make sure that your bios is up to date.

My videocard is 128mb and it was pretty cheap. Yeah , new RAM is needed and my HDD is really slow and quite small, I asked my Dad for another one a while ago but he doesn't have any bigger ones (Mine is 40GB with 2GB free)

Well... you could build a computer for pretty cheap. Here's what I used to build mine:

I think some of the above products have been discontinued by now, but you can find similar ones. They're cheap, and they work really well.
Also I didn't include a motherboard or CPU because I got them for free from a friend of mine. You can find some pretty cheap ones on Newegg, although they are probably the most expensive components in a computer.

I know why my computer is so slow, my processor is P4 1.5ghz, the processor in my old computer was P3 533mhz but there is absolutly no diffence, I can't test my old computer since it blew up but from what I remember this computer opens things at the same rate the old one did, even Visual Basic Express 2008 which has 1ghz as minimum specs, it opens and runs at the exact same speed as my old one which should be 3x slower

I've looked around and in relation to brand new computers, yeas it is way cheaper but it would still be atleast 500NZD and there is no way of me getting that kind of money

And yes, it is pretty expensive, although much cheaper than buying a new one. You should get a job or something, and use the money to buy the components.

An idea I had that I'll probably do this summer is set up an online store of computer parts. People order the parts, for which I will charge slightly more than the MSRP, and I get the parts and build the computer for them. I get the profit, and they get a computer for cheaper than they would at a store.

Yeah, once I get a part time job, between 6 months and a year (depending on how much I make and how long I can save up for ) I'm gonna make me a kick-donkey computer! Then hopefully my 'bad computer luck' will be over

No, you made a list of all components but you never included the logic board (Motherboard).

Oh ... it's your motherboard. I was at the bottom of the article, my friend, for free, the motherboard, if I do not know what type it is, HP is the only thing of importance. So I will not buy it, I had to do it is linked.

LOL i didn't know that a MB is also called a logic board... i like the way that sounds better than Mother Board....
