Re: Apple iPad
The Apple A4 Processor has been proven to be better than Atoms with twice the GHZ which makes no sense what so ever in my mind, but what do I know...
Re: Apple iPad
Better in what sense? It's faster than Atoms because it doesn't have anywhere near as much to handle as a Netbook does. Netbooks run full operating systems, while the A4 only runs the iPod OS, which is pretty bare by itself.
Re: Apple iPad
Yeah, on portable computers Pentium 4 uses a lot of power doesn't it?AMV_Ph34r wrote:Not to get off topic, butDepends. Pentium 4s are really inefficient, and heat up really quickly. Atoms are better for Netbooks. Though in a normal desktop computer, an Atom just won't cut it.Hellblade wrote:(...Pentium 4 is better then Pentium Atom I think...)
Yeah, AMV's explanation makes a lot of sense

I am on about the processor not the iPad, the A4 is proven to be a much better performer than the atom, I really can't see how this is proved unless they put the same OS on both devices.
Otherwise it's like having a PC and a Mac with the same spec the pc having an AMD processor and the mac having an intel processor, obviously the mac will perform faster but thats not necessarily because of the processor

Re: Apple iPad
I realize that. I'm just saying that if you put the A4 in a Netbook, it won't preform as well as the Atom would, since the Atom's built to be used in Netbooks.Nathan wrote:I am on about the processor not the iPad, the A4 is proven to be a much better performer than the atom, I really can't see how this is proved unless they put the same OS on both devices.

Re: Apple iPad
I'm with AMV on this one. the A4 wasn't built for netbooks. so there for it won't perform as well as it does in an Ipad. does anyone happen to know what graphics chipset is in the Ipad? that would make a world of diff for the gaming section of it.

Re: Apple iPad
I don't know what type of chip it is, but I do know it supports up to 1024x768 resolution. It does have really nice graphics, but I don't know the specifics.Lonewolf wrote:does anyone happen to know what graphics chipset is in the Ipad? that would make a world of diff for the gaming section of it.
Re: Apple iPad
Ah... it probally uses some type of program to determine how much RAM to share. and probally uses the same thing for the CPU. making it half GPU half CPU. or whatever percentage is needed. makes sense to me. how bout you guys?

Re: Apple iPad
Makes sense to me. That'd probably be the best way to get such good performance out of such a small device.
Re: Apple iPad
works for me. lol. i got to play around on one today. their pretty cool. but the fact of the matter is. it's an upscaled Iphone/pod touch. I honestly am not gonna buy one. But to each their own. M$ and Apple is a rivalry that is never gonna subside. I would rather have a tablet pc runnin Ubuntu. but hey... lol

Microsoft and Apple are not really rivals anyone, it's Google and Apple nowadays
Everyone hates Google (can't say I don't agree).
Re: Apple iPad
That's true, *those two* are the big rivals these days. I'm a fan of Google myself. They have over 1 million servers. I want that many servers...Nathan wrote:Microsoft and Apple are not really rivals anyone, it's Google and Apple nowadays

Re: Apple iPad
I hate Google - I'll point out the Google Updater, it starts up when Windows starts and the only way to stop it is to rename or delete the updater.exe file It starts up even when there are no startup entries for it and no scheduled tasks....I can't trust it...
Look at part of their first Terms of Service for Chrome
http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2008/09/google-chrome-sucks.html
At school we use Google Apps, quite often it doesn't work well. Quite often documents can't save, sometimes they don't load, sometimes it shows stuff thats not there......
I don't mind the search engine, but that's about it....
I like Microsoft...mostly

Re: Apple iPad
Sorry I prefer Microsoft to Google and I am an Apple fan.
Seriously Apple and Microsoft are becoming close, at the moment it's all on Adobe to get rid of Flash (which I agree with) I think Adobe should just make html exporting for Flash..
Once Flash is dead Google will be a main target again, they are evil and thier slogan is Don't be evil.
But we all know it's really "Don't be evil, because thats our job!"

Re: Apple iPad
There's no question that I like Microsoft a lot more than Google. But I find Google's services useful, too. I can't stand Windows Live Mail, YMail is kinda bleah, AOL mail is long dead, but GMail works, looks nice, is customizable, etc.
Re: Apple iPad
Hotmail is good but works very horrid in webkit browsers which upsets me.
It's fine in RE

Re: Apple iPad
I haven't tried it with a webkit browsers, but yeah, it works fine with Gecko and Trident
Re: Apple iPad
I just don't like in in general. Ads everywhere, too much spam, etc.
I get very little spam that's not filtered to my spam folder in Gmail.

Re: Apple iPad
Google Mail has ads to, in-fact it checks the content and titles of you mail to choose what it advertises to you, how rude!
Hotmail has more advertising banner so it's hardly everywhere.

I get very little spam with hotmail, and it goes to my junk folder so it gets deleted in 10 days.
Re: Apple iPad
Yeah, but at least they're more subtle, and not a huge banner ad. I can't stand big image/flash advertisements, especially in an email inbox. Which brings me to another point: I can't use Hotmail with a separate email client. I like using Thunderbird, and I can't do that with Hotmail. No IMAP/SMTP support.Nathan wrote:Google Mail has ads to, in-fact it checks the content and titles of you mail to choose what it advertises to you, how rude!

I've always received a lot of spam mail in Hotmail. So have other Hotmail users I know.Hellblade wrote:I get very little spam with hotmail, and it goes to my junk folder so it gets deleted in 10 days.
