Cheap Laptop....
On this 2nd Hand NZ website, there is this laptop for $1.
They say the only problem is that it freezes after start up.
Now, here is the link to it http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Laptops/Laptops/Toshiba/auction-217742792.htm
Now some questions:
1) Anyone somewhat know / can guess what model it is? Or how right the specs are? (I know the RAM must be wrong) Based on how it looks, I think all but the RAM would be close enough, the RAM would probably be 256 at min and 1gb at max, most likily 512mb. That's just a guess though
2) Would it be possiable to fix it (Just a guess)? Depending on when it freezes, maybe reinstalling windows will fix it, or replacing the HDD
3) Do you think it would be good to buy, or too risky?
It comes with a laptop bag, so if it doesn't work maybe I could sell that, it would be worth more tha na dollar, it should be worth as much as the postage would cost.
If I do get it, it would be a cheap laptop But I would have to get my Dad or sister to buy it then I would have to pay them back since I'm too young for an account, my sister would probably say no and I might have to twist my Dad's leg to get it.

Re: Cheap Laptop....
I think it might be the Toshiba Satellite M60.
Now, I saw the spec range from the different types and basically, it ranges from being slightly worse than my PC to much better than my PC.
I looked up about it freezing, and I know of somethings to try that might work.
Basically, it would be a gamble. For starters, it will be a gamble if it is the M60.
The main gamble is it will either be fixable or not fixable.
If it is fixable, it will probably work as well as my computer, slightly better than my computer or way better than my computer. I doubt it could be worse then mine.

Re: Cheap Laptop....
Not being funny, it's the working parts in it will worth more than $1
the freezing with either be a RAM defect, a problem with the CPU, or it could just be a corrupted OS (depending what they mean by start up).
It likely that that hard drive will be working, so if you can't fix it you can still obviously make profit
and if all the parts are not working you say it comes with a laptop bag, common they sell for $20's if not more!
I wouldn't classify it as risky, just remember it's go till thursday and it likely to go higher than the $1 though, see how high it goes for

Re: Cheap Laptop....
Yeah.
I will ask my Dad to bid at the end if it is cheap enough
Aww, it has been bidded on and is up to $5.50, by the time thursday comes it will be too high
I will email my Dad anyway......maybe he will just get me a laptop from somewhere else

Re: Cheap Laptop....
Will do.
He might not get it till after it has closed.
Haha, it's already at $20 and Ionly told my Dad to go up to that price since that is all I have because if it was that price I would have paid for it so it will be interesting to see what he says

Re: Cheap Laptop....
LOL that's still cheap. you could buy it and sell it for spare parts to someone.

Re: Cheap Laptop....
My dad said it had already gone over and without knowing the real cause of the freezing it would only be suitable for parts - it could be the motherboard or HDD that are failing, which isn't worth fixing.
Oh yeah, he also said if it was $20 it would have been OK
Nothing about getting me a laptop

Re: Cheap Laptop....
I'd say the latter. I fixed a computer with a corrupted OS just last Thursday.Cats wrote:

Re: Cheap Laptop....
Microsoft corrupts it own boot sequence when dumping
Seriously, that happened to me, I let it dump when it has a system error once and it either said something about WIndows being corrupt or something, with the install disk I went to repair and I made it fix the bootsequence because it said it was corrupt

Re: Cheap Laptop....
A USB drive?
Yeah, I'm going to fix a new USB stick and install Cloud on it, then I can use that in school. Their darn computers made me lose a 12 page essay! I don't store stuff on their servers since they run Windows, I upload my stuff to dropbox so I can access it from everywhere.

Re: Cheap Laptop....
